Wikipedia Editathon – Women of Edinburgh

7 March 2018  - International Women's Day Lecture by Anne Richards, CVO, CBE, FRSE Chief Executive Officer of M&G Investments,

and Vice-Convener of University of Edinburgh Court.  The the lecture theme is: “Investing for everyone - can Finance help close the gender equality gap?”

8 March 2018 - International Women’s Day - Wikipedia editing event to celebrate #Vote100 as an important milestone on the road to universal franchise. Creating articles on Wikipedia about the suffragettes.

30 March 2018 - Wikipedia Women in Red monthly meetup Friday 30th Mar. (but normally held on the last Thursday or Friday in the month) to address the systemic bias on Wikipedia by writing articles about notable women missing from Wikipedia. 

8 June 2018 - Wikipedia event – celebrating 100 years of votes for women.

10 June 2018 - Processions 2018 - celebrating 100 years of votes for women, the history of marches and banner making.
9 October 2018 - Ada Lovelace Day - more inspirational women in STEM.

Please join us at our 2017 Ada Lovelace Day event on Tuesday 10 October: celebrating Women in STEM. The sessions are free, open to all and are now  live for booking - all being held in JCMB.. This year there is a special focus on Women in Chemistry and the 19 petitioners to the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1904.

'Bragging Writes' Wikipedia edit-a-thon. A  celebration of International Women's Day 2017 with the theme being theme being Women Writers, Women in Art , and Women Role Models.  All are welcome to attend; staff, students & members of the public creating new Wikipedia articles and improving existing ones to redress the systemic bias on Wikipedia and create new role models for young & old alike.

Talk on Multicultural Education by Dr Damian Spiteri, University of York. (This event is open to staff and students, but places are limited so early booking is recommended).

Dr Spiteri will give an overview of how cultural and cross-cultural competence can be both understood and expressed differently, and will show how College and Universities can generate an overall culture wherein people will act in ways that both acknowledge and respect ethnic, socio-cultural and linguistic diversity.

International Transgender Day of Visibility - Film Screening and Panel Discussion. In commemoration of Transgender Visibility Day (31 March), the University of Edinburgh's Staff Pride Network is organising a special evening to look at cultural representations of transgender identity, with a focus on male transsexuality, as well as general issues affecting trans and non-binary identities. The event will include a screening of 2011’s Tomboy, as well as a panel discussion afterwards.

Chad Gowler - Asking About Gender  - Between 1 and 5 percent of the UK population identifies as having a non-binary gender or are transgender. This talk aims to help developers ask about gender in a useful and sensitive manner; educate on what nonbinary means and what other issues non-binary and gender variant users may face. We will also look at how we can make non-binary and trans developers feel more welcome. Chad is a software engineer at Sky in Leeds. They are a firm believer in inclusive software and digital inclusion.
