Reasonable Adjustments Policy and Guidance

Guidance for disabled staff and their managers.

The University values and benefits from a diverse workforce and is committed to removing barriers to employment for disabled people. We positively welcome job applications from disabled people and we provide services to support the needs of disabled staff.

The University aims to promote a culture where staff feel confident to disclose a disability, and disabled staff are supported to develop and perform to their full potential.

The Reasonable Adjustments Policy sets out the legislative context of disability in employment, a process on how to request reasonable adjustments, and the services available to provide additional support to disabled staff.

The Policy is accompanied by a Managers’ Guidance, further clarifying the role that managers have in implementing reasonable adjustments, how to determine whether support requests are deemed reasonable or not, and offer guidance to facilitate safe conversations – reducing/removing the fear to say or do the wrong thing. Support tools will include:

The Policy also introduces an Individual Adjustments Plan (IAP). This document is a record of any requirements disabled staff might have, and adjustments which would help them perform their job to the best of your abilities. The plan does not include any sensitive data regarding any disabilities employees might have, and only focus on requirements and agreed adjustments.
